There are several manufacturers in the computing world, and each one makes several different types of systems. I won’t use brand names, as each company has its own merits, and its own drawbacks. Just remember, a good rule of thumb these days is a new computer system is generally obsolete after a year, sometimes sooner.

Another thing to keep in mind is expandability. A key question to ask is can you upgrade components easily? With some manufacturers, you can only use the parts that they make, such as RAM and power supplies. As time passes, the cost of replacing parts becomes a problem, as well as even being able to find them.

Don’t let these things throw you, however. Many companies are leading edge, and do their best to stay current, if not ahead, of the game. Just be aware that you’ll pay a premium for the newest features, but the cost usually doesn’t pay for itself in the long run. Always do your homework on a particular system that catches your eye. There is plenty of information available on all the devices and gadgets out there, and if something about a system is suspect or faulty, it won’t take long to be made known to the world.

Also, don’t be shy about grilling a salesperson about features that you don’t understand or have heard bad things about. Rule of thumb on this is: If the salesman can’t answer your questions, don’t be led astray. It’s your investment, and any investment is worth understanding fully.

Building a System

Here’s where things get really interesting. If you’ve never put a computer together, it can seem impossible. However, if you have a small amount of mechanical ability and patience, you’ll find this to be a very rewarding pursuit.

You’ll also get a good understanding of how each component makes up an overall computer, as well as how each one works. I’ve personally built more machines than I can easily count, and each time out it’s always similar, but also very different.

A trip to a bookstore or the ‘Net will get you more than enough information for a complete overview of how a PC is constructed.

One of the main considerations on building your own machine is that you can blow your budget quickly on components. Always try to get the most value for the money you’re willing to spend, and shop around for the best bargains. Again, do your homework and research before heading to the store.

Have you ever got to a point where you were going to write down a New Year’s Resolution or some other goal you thought you wanted, only to find yourself procrastinate. One year later, did you need to achieve the same New Year’s Resolution or goal? Why does this happen?

It happens because of that little voice inside of you that says, “I am not good enough or worthy enough to be in possession of the benefits derived from achieving my goal.” “I have been programmed for failure.”

I recently read a motivational quote that said: “If you can’t write it down, you can’t do it.”

Let us think about that for a minute. Every day you may be compiling lists of things to do to run your household, perform your job, or plan your business trip or vacation. How many times do you really write down, exactly what you want out of life?

How many long term or short-term goals do you write down?

Now when thinking about what you want to achieve focus your attention on specific words and ideas relating to your goals. Give those words and ideas your complete attention as you write them down.

Did you ever write a letter, business report, or term paper and at times find your fingers flying across the keyboard?

Since written words are symbols of objects, ideas, or feelings, could the physical process of entering these words onto a page actually create a subconscious connection?

I believe it does. When you use language to communicate on paper, you need to process the information on a subconscious level.

The help you are getting while creating your list of goals is coming straight from your powerful subconscious mind. Why not take advantage of the power of your mind in achieving your goals?

Write your goals down in your day planner, write them down, and hang them on your walls. Write your goals on sticky notes and place them on your bathroom mirror or on your windows.

Every time you write your goals down, your body is moving towards them. The goals are getting clearer and clearer. The roadmap you create by writing goals down projects straight to your subconscious mind and is being acted upon.

A now popular syndicated cartoonist wrote down 15 times a day, every day the following sentence. “I want to be a syndicated cartoonist.” He did this every single day, even when he did not feel like a syndicated cartoonist. Now, Scott Adams, the creator of the “Dilbert Cartoon” is a full-time, syndicated cartoonist, known the world over. Scott “wrote it down.”

One way to state that goal in a more positive and immediate context is to say, “I am a syndicated cartoonist.” Act as if you already are in possession of the goal. It takes a lot of pressure off you during your daily activities when you feel the new role. You then become comfortable with it.

Write your goals down everywhere. As you write them down think about John, the 15-year-old goal achiever from the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” story. Now that John is in his seventies, what advice would John have for you when you ask him, “What is the most important thing I can do to achieve my goals?”

Listen to John whisper in your ear these three words… write it down.

For the last 5 years, I have studied positive affirmations and have come up with a Three Part Plan that should help even those of us who have had no previous success.

What are affirmations? Affirmations are Statements that you use to make “something firm”. The process of using affirmations is actually ancient. Biblically, they’ve also been referred to as “confessions”.

There are hundreds of books, tapes, CD’s, computer software and even jewelry that have ways to use Affirmations. However, it’s important to know why using these Statements with certain methods will bring immediate results, while others bring nothing but headaches.

Take a look at this Bible Verse Faith Cometh By Hearing and Hearing by the Word of God- Romans 10:17. Think about this for a moment, if Faith comes by hearing, what do we hear? Our voice, right? If our words are positive, then our life experiences tend to be positive.

Unfortunately, each Truth has a reciprocal. If you are Confessing nothing but the negative, your bound to get what you don’t want. It’s that simple. Proverbs 2 says that You are snared with the words of your mouth.

Therefore, you’re first step is to curb your tongue. Think of your tongue as a rudder, it can literally turn your life in any direction that you want it to go. It takes a little effort to become aware of how many times in a day you make a negative statement, or profess something that you don’t want to happen. Affirm the positive! Always concentrate on what you want to happen! And NOT what you don’t want to happen And, definitely do so Out Loud! If you want to get faster results, make a tape stating each confession 3 times. Listen to this tape as your drifting off to sleep and when you first awake. You should even record your Detailed Description and place it at the end.

Next, Write your Affirmations. When I want to make a change in my life, I write out at least 15-20 specific related Statements. Additionally, I create and write a very Detailed Description of how my life will be once these changes have manifested. I always focus on one goal at a time. In other words, I don’t try to loose weight and attract wealth simultaneously. Results come from intense focus!

Every day I write these affirmations at least 3 times each and in different tenses . It takes about an hour, but it is well worth it because when I am writing these affirmations, my mind is quiet, focused and extremely receptive. Again, I am focusing on what I want, and NOT what I am trying to change.

Finally, keep these affirmations in front of you as often as possible. This is done in two ways; that which is “seen” and that which is “unseen”. Personally, I have experienced dramatic results with a customized computer program that flashes my affirmations continuously and unobtrusively while I am working or surfing the internet. I also tape a list of my affirmations to my bathroom mirror, in my day planner, car dashboard, etc.

In addition to this computer software, I also meditate on my Detailed Description daily. I visualize my new life in as much detail as I can. I usually take about 15 minutes in the morning and evening to do this.

Know this, it is just as easy to have Faith in the “undesired” as it is to have Faith in the “desired”. Ask yourself, “What will I have Faith in?” Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.- Hebrews 11:1 Remember, you only need Faith in the size of a mustard seed!

Follow these 3 Steps and you will build your Faith that these Affirmations will manifest. Remember, As a Man Thinketh, So is He.

What is it they find on the web? Business opportunities. Everyone wants to be able to run their own business because the possibilities are much more than a 9-5 job. It can be the easiest and fastest way to earn a lot of money. And one of those online businesses are Affiliate Marketing Programs. The way it works is the person acts as a salesperson for a vendor or company, but they are not working for the company. Its like having a job minus the boss. Its a job, but your own business at the same time. Once sales are made, then the vendors pay you accordingly.

Then comes the issue of which Affiliate marketing program to choose because there are a lot, and i mean A LOT of them out there. The first and most important thing to do is a hell of a lot of research. Search about the company, people working with the company, the affiliates of the company etc. And dont just look at their website because obviously companies are not going to say anything bad about themselves, but don’t depend on blogs from their rivals either. Common sense is going to have to be working extra hard for you.

Lastly, don’t fall for lines like “be a millionaire in 3 months” because that is simply not going to happen. If it were, shouldn’t half of the States be full of millionaires by now? Think about it. Be realistic and honest with yourself. This is going to take work. Affiliate marketing programs sound like easy ways to get money, but easy for people who work at it and don’t sit around their behinds all day.

Stated loan programs are designed for a person whose income or assets fluctuate from month to month and year to year. Not many banks offer stated programs. Many people who need stated programs get turned down by not only banks but by inexperienced mortgage brokers who don’t understand the breadth of the programs at their fingertips. So, you may have to enlighten them with your own insight by telling them this is the program you need.

Stated programs are for people who may not qualify for a conventional loan, because they do not meet income requirements a lender has. A prime example is someone who does not show all of her income on a W-2 tax return, for one reason or another. This person may make enough money to cover the mortgage payment, but she can’t prove she makes it on paper. Lenders like to see two years of W-2 income. This proves to them that you consistently make enough money to pay back the loan. Now, it’s important to note that this is a good credit program, and a lender will want someone with at least A-minus credit for approval. Here is where all that work to maintain your spartan credit record is going to pay off.

What the stated loan requires is all standard documents, except income verification. In other words, the loan officer is going to state your income on the application, and no proof is required. Please note that this program is not intended for someone who works at McDonalds to try to state that he makes $200,000 yearly, so he can get approved for a $400,000 loan. It is intended for people, like salesmen, whose income varies or for businessmen, who work on bonuses, which they may not receive until the next year. As long as the income is reasonable for the profession, no underwriter will ever question it. So, if you needed to make 60,000 yearly for approval, but you only show $54,000 on last year’s W-2, your mortgage broker can get you a stated income program, and he will simply write $60,00 on the application. Don’t worry, the lender won’t ask for pay stubs or tax returns. Your credit rating speaks for itself. In other words, the lender sees that you have an excellent payment history on your other debts, so he is willing to take on a bit more risk.

A stated asset program works the same way, and good credit is required for approval in this program, too. Lenders require cash reserves, in order to cover several months of mortgage payments, in the event something goes wrong after the loan closes, like you lose your job or get hurt. This can be a problem for people who have no savings, stocks, or retirement accounts, which are all acceptable forms of reserves. If you fall into this category, you simply ask for a stated asset loan, and the mortgage broker will state enough assets on your loan application to appease the lender.

This seems fraudulent, you might say. It isn’t, as long as you follow the guidelines set forth by the lenders. Remember, they created these programs, so they could loan more money. You’ll pay, of course, because the lender will hit you with a premium on your rate, because the loan is more of a risk. So, instead of getting a 6% rate, you might get as high as 6.75%, but at least you’ll get your loan.

There are many other loan programs that allow you to borrow more of the equity in the house, let’s say up to 95% or even 100%, due to a great credit rating. Some programs allow for an improvement on your interest rate.

It’s always important to ask your mortgage broker if there is some kind of incentive because you have A or A+ credit. Most lenders allow the mortgage broker to either give you the break in rate, or they’ll give it to the broker in a cash commission. Many unscrupulous brokers will never mention the credit bonus to you, and they’ll make up to .25% of the loan amount for themselves.

So, if you had a $200,000 loan, and the lender allowed a .25% interest reduction or commission to the broker, and the broker takes it, instead of giving it to you, that mortgage broker would make $500.00 extra dollars, which would be paid by the lender. Of course, if you had received the .25% better rate, your payment would decrease by about $30.00 each month and $360.00 each year. That’s nearly $2,000 if you have the loan for five years that you would lose to a greedy mortgage broker. So, always ask for something, due to your excellent credit.

If you are developer who is asked: how do we implement Great Plains integration/interface with your legacy or other system – read this and you will have the clues on where to look further.

1. Great Plains Integration Manager - this is rather end-user tool - it is very intuitive, it validates 100% of business logic, brings in/updates master records brings in transactions into work tables. The limitation of Integration Manager - it does use GP windows behind the scenes without showing them - so it is relatively slow - you can bring 100 records - but when you are talking about thousands - it is not a good option. By the way you can program Integration Manager with VBA.

2. eConnect – it is type of Software Development Kit with samples in VB.Net. Obviously the development environment should be Visual Studio.Net. eConnect will allow you to integrate master records - such as new customers, vendors, employees, etc., plus you can bring transactions into so called Great Plains work tables eConnect is rather for ongoing integration. It was initially created for eCommerce application integration to Great Plains.

3. SQL Stored Procedures. Obviously you have unlimited control and possibilities with SQL queries. You need to know Great Plains tables structure and data flow. Launch Great Plains and go to Tools->Resource Description->Tables. Find the table in the proper series. If you are looking for the customers – it should be RM00101 – customer master file. If you need historical Sales Order Processing documents – they are in SOP30200 – Sales History Header file, etc. Do not change existing tables - do not create new fields, etc. Also you need to realize that each GP table has DEX_ROW_ID - identity column. Sometimes it is good idea to use inbound/outbound XML in the parameters - then you can deploy web service as a middle party between two systems.

4. Data Transformation Services – Good tool for importing your third party data into staging tables in GP - then you can pull them in using either stored procs of Integration Manager. You can also deploy this tool for EDI export/import.

5. Great Plains Dexterity Custom Screens. Sometimes users prefer to have seamlessly integrated into GP interface custom screens - for parameters settings and initiating integration. Dexterity is a good option, however remember - it is always better to create new custom screen versus customizing existing one - due to the future upgrade issues. Also - Dexterity is in phasing our by Microsoft Business Solutions.

6. Modifier/VBA custom buttons on the existing screens - alternative to Dexterity is you are comfortable with VBA and ADO.

7. MS Access – if you are doing one time conversion and your legacy has old ODBC compliant platform - you can use MS Access to create linked tables there - or import into MS Access.

8. SQL Linked Servers – you can do direct SQL queries to other ODBC compliant platform via SQL Linked Server - you may need to familiarize yourself with OPENROWSET command in Transact SQL. This is also good option if you need cross-platform Crystal Report - pulling data from SQL Server and third party databases on the same report.

9. Warning - do not place existing GP tables into Replication! - you will have upgrade issues.
