I'm looking to create a real-time messaging utility, and i want it to be bespoke and not 3rd party.
I want it to be web-based. I'm guessing you could create a PHP script (or other scripting language) to automatically check for updates on a certain time-period, however I'm guessing this is rather network intensive and therefore i'm sure there are alternative methods.
